Can we afford to raise the price of electricity this much?

This doesn’t seem like a lot of money, but I do not believe that it will be this amount, but it will be more. Food will go up because the super market pays lights too. Your electric car will cost more to operate.. Everything will go up.
The real way to stop pollution is to turn off lights, TVs, and A/C,s and live without electricity, cars, and any modern appliances. We could all do them a favor and commit mass suicide.. that would make them happy. The economy is a mess & people do not even have homes any more so who is going to pay for all this. Like the health care bill, it is the wrong time to do this.
****HE needs to fix the economy first..

Carol Browner, Obama’s assistant for energy and climate change, cited a 3-per-year estimated cost in a briefing Wednesday — a figure for a family of four calculated by the Congressional Budget Office. Republicans say costs would be higher.
Actual unemployment when you count those whose benefits have run out is at 17%

I live in Washington State and last year my monthly heating bill went up by 16%. I have been unemployed for almost a year and cannot afford to heat my home now. You are right, everything will go up. I don’t want to freeze or starve to death. I want to be around in 2012 and vote the current president and his radical pals OUT OF OFFICE!

    Great question

  • the old dog says:

Not right now we can’t. But then the question becomes "can we ‘not’ afford to raise the price"?
It’s seems to be six of one and a half a dozen of the other and who the hell knows for sure what would be the right move here. The economics are bad but the individual isn’t the only one feeling it, our infrastructures are feeling it as well.
The plants generating our electricity are part of the infrastructure……..
It’s looks like a vicious circle doesn’t it?

No we cannot afford it. Unemployment is 10.2%, and middle class cannot affort their bills, debt, mortgage, or food for their famalies. We do not need new taxes on elctricity…how does this help the people already suffering in the recession, not to mention the hit that small businesses are going to take. Dems have no idea what the people need, want, or what is good for this country…

  • Andrew S Wake-up call says:

The price of electricity should be a free enterprise based business decision and the government should stay out of it. The elites are lying when they claim that central control by a few "experts" provides more for everyone than government of, by, and for the people. They are in it for themselves. Obama is in it for himself.

The indirect costs were omitted and the best-case scenario used so the yes man’s estimate is likely very low (and the opposition’s estimate likely high). Social economy planning of this like never does what is advertised and always hurts the people.
