What company do you find cheapest for electricity in the houston area since energy co's are deregulated?
I’m tired of my electricity bills raping me. Does anyone have advice of what company made a difference in their bill? I have txu energy–the last bill was a bit shy of 0.00; my katy home unfortunately has cathedral ceilings and is 3200 sq. ft. Yes, it’s my first home and I never paid electric bills before, so i didn’t know what i was getting into. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time =)
What would an upper class home in the 1800s have been made out of?
An upper class home in the united states or possibly europe.
Wood frame? Brick walls? Would marble floors have been a likely option? What kind of metal would have been used for plumbing? Electricity? Heating? Would the home be insulated if it was in an area with cold winters, if yes, with what?
I’m mostly interested in the construction materials that were available and what was commonly used but general information on this type of home is welcome as well.
How is an electrical jumper made? What are the materials used and how is it assembled?
I don’t exactly know how this gadget is referred to but this "electrical jumper" is being used in order to save electricity consumption if you have too may appliances at home.
I know I’m causing confusion here because jumpers are generally used in computers or as electronic testers but it is also used as power savers. Maybe I’m just using the wrong name for it. Could anybody please help me to learn how to do it?
Help! Anyone?
Can you build a Home Made EMP thing?
I just thought of this and was wondering if it can be done. I have a magnet that is the size of a small cell phone and its the strongest iv ever had and seen. Its stronger then the big ones in speakers lol. But i was wondering if i added electricity to it what could happen. But what would it take to make a EMP thing that would fry every thing in my room? Like in a normal size room in a normal size house.
I want to know what it takes too build a EMP thing to fry all electronics as soon as i turn it on lol? Sounds about like a EMP bomb but im not talking about anything that big lol. Something i can hook some battery’s up to and all my electronics fry lol. (not like im really going to do that lol)
How do you calculate the number of copper wire coils for a generator so that I can generate 1200 Kw power?
I am building a home-made wind turbine generator with lots of tools, money and materials. I need to know how to calculate the number of copper coils, i.e. coil number, windings, size of windings, etc., to generate 1200 Kw of electricity. What size of copper wire? Size of magnets? How many? I am really interested on the mathematics of the wind turbine construction.
How to install your own Solar and wind power system?
I came accross a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. Get it from here: http://www.earth4energy-review.com
Hope everyone will follow this guide and save the earth.
Increased Electricity Bill – Brinks System?
We recently had a Brink’s home alram system installed and at the same time we noticed that our Electricity bill sky rocketed. I called them to see if the alarm runs on our electricity and it does. However, could this alone be enough to cause such an increase. We haven’t changed our electricity consumption much at all and this is the only addition we’ve made to our home.
What other kinds of natural forces (like electricity) do you think are yet to be discovered?
We’ve discovered quite a few thinks up to this point: Magnetism, Electricity, Gravity, the electromagnetic spectrum, etc…..
I would say that electricity is the biggest "discovery" that has changed our life to date. Magnetism would be second because without it, we wouldn’t have generators to generate electricity for our homes/business. I don’t consider gravity to be something that changed our lives because it was always there.
I’m just wondering what possible forces are out there that could again revolutionize our way of life?
Could "dark matter" play a role? What about man made gravity "beams" (not centrifugal forces), but Half-life 2 gravity gun type things. Time/space distortions to use as propulsion?
This is just a mind excersise, obviouly we don’t really know what’s left to discover, I just want to see what others think about this.
Can electrolyzed water be made at home?
Excerpt from Feb. 23, 2009 LA Times article: ‘Simple elixir called a miracle liquid’- Maria Dickerson, reporter
"It turns out that zapping salt water with low-voltage electricity creates a couple of powerful yet nontoxic cleaning agents. Sodium ions are converted into sodium hydroxide, an alkaline liquid that cleans and degreases like detergent, but without the scrubbing bubbles. Chloride ions become hypochlorous acid, a potent disinfectant known as acid water. "
What are the most costly items to run with electricity in your home?
I just moved into a new place and the energy company has yet to change the billing to my name, so I am paying the bill thru my landlord for the first month. I live in a 2 family home with my son. I have exactly 4 lamps, one TV, a computer and modem, a microwave and one fan. I have had no refrigerator except for the last week(long story, had to wait to get one, been using coolers..lol). Have not used the A/C and was told today that may be cheaper than the fans???? The water heater is gas and I have used a washer and dryer a couple of times per week. My bill as they tell me is 0. for the month?? Here’s the catch. The basement electricity is on my bill and the landlord has left a dehumidifier running 24 7 for the last month. What jacked up the bill so high??? I’ve never had a bill like this before. I know I’ll have to pay it, but I’d like some ideas on what made it so high. Thanks.
Why are these home makeover people so obsessed with candles?
Every time without fail there are rows of candles placed around the newly made-over abode. Having transformed a mediocre semi-detached brick house using MDF and a hotch-potch of colour-coordinated accessories, the finishing touch is always a row of candles. Candles on the fireplace, candles along the side of the bath, candles on the bedside table. (This generally has me doing a Ronnie Barker and saying "Four candles")
Is there no electricity in these homes? Can’t they have crystal chandeliers like the rest of us?
Trouble with home made electic motor?
ok so i’m making a electric motor and i followed the driection perfectly (to my knoledge) but it won’t work.
so the way i made it was i took safety pin and hooked them into the side of a cup to act as hindges. next i took about 5 magenets and placed them between the 2 pins.then i took some left over insulate wire (from an invisable fence my dad bought) and wrap it around to form a coil leaving 3 inches on both sides. i put the coil in the saftey pin and it made a perfect hindge and it just missed the magnets as it spins just like the direction recomended. next i rig up 8 double a batteries (8AA=15v) and put it on the pins and gave the coil a push and nothing happened. (well somthing happen cuz when i put the electricity in i saw the coil move slightly. i played around with it a bit and got it to work for about 1 min and then it stop. (also the pins get rly hot and 1 of the pins is slightly chared from the heat) i haven’t beeen able to get it to spin as i want and i just can’t figure out why please help.
Who makes the parts for a wood fired steam powered electricity generator that can also heat a home?
Outdoor wood and coal furnaces as add on units to heat pumps are becoming popular now. I’m trying to find a vendor who makes a stand alone unit for powering a riverside cabin home. A 200 amp 240 VAC unit would be perfect, but a 100-150 amp unit would power everything.
Electricity?
What are some ideas for eletrical devices that can be made at home?
