How much natural gas/crude oil is required to generate 1 KW of electricity?
I am comparing the costs of generating electricity from crude oil and natural gas.
I would like to know:
1. How much natural gas is required to generate 1 KW of electricity?
2. How much crude oil is required to generate 1 KW of electricity?
My government just increased the electricity bills by 21% citing increasing oil futures prices as the justification to do that. However, Singapore generated about 80% of its electricity from natural gas and not crude oil! I think this is a rip off.
The supply of natural gas is up, yet the price is not coming down, why?
Some people thought my answer about the economy was pretty lame, and it was. It’s much more than supply and demand. We could get into elastic and inelastic markets as well.
Supply and demand is a part of economics however.
Historically when gas was plentiful, the price came down. Electricity is made using natural gas, lignite coal and nuclear power. If natural gas went down in price, so would your electric bill.
Why is that not the case now?
Could a natural gas powered electric generator be used to generate electricity for the home cheaper?
If natural gas is cheap enough compared to the cost of electricity, it might be much cheaper to generate your home electricity requirements with a natural gas motor/electric generator. I’m sure the gas companies would LOVE it if everyone did this! And, if everyone stopped buying electricity because this worked, the electric companies would have to lower their prices to compete!
what is the latest technology for fossil fuel fired generators for electricity?
I have read about generators that use either natural gas or coal, so that the cheapest fuel can be used. Coal made into a slurry might be a generator fuel.
I read about different kinds of coal, and I do not know which kind is used.
WHY is there government control on Natural Gas and Electricity pricing, but not gasoline?
Are we better off with afforable pricing since Ronald Reagan removed government control of gasoline pricing? Who is it favoring and why don’t they allow Natural Gas and Electric companies raise prices as they see fit?
Can LPG portable generators run on NG also?
Can portable generators rated to run on LPG (propane) also run on NG (natural gas) as well, without altering the generator?
jon144au, I know that is the case with older generators.
How many wind generators would have to be install?
How many wind generators would it take to replace 50% of the power plants powered by coal and natural gas?
I am looking for a american company that makes generators, using methane or natural gas?
I glimpsed at the end of a tv show i believe was made in america, and it showed a company that makes motors and generators the size of railroad locomotive generators and motors. the motors are run by using methane gas or natural gas. I have connections with a company that might have a use for them and I would like to work with them in expansion that would eleminate coal fired generators.I any one could give me the name and address of the company I would be most grateful.
How Much Have Consumer Prices for Electricity & Natural Gas Gone Up Compared to the Price of Oil Over…?
… the past handful of years?
Have consumer prices for electricity and natural gas gone up roughly the same percent as the price of oil (or fuel oil) over the past handful of years? Or, are people who heat with natural gas and electricity not seeing nearly as large of a jump in the prices they pay compared to people who heat with fuel oil?
