Would You Support Getting a Lot More of Our Electricity from Nuclear Energy?

Why or why not?

France gets 80% of their electricity from nuclear energy. They are hardly bothered by the price of oil going up and global warming.

Absolutely. End the dependance on foreign oil.

  • gustooch says:

i think it would be a positive thing.

  • buck says:

    yes!

  • realitycheck says:

Let’s give the extremists in the middle east the heave ho

and take control of our energy future now!

  • Stephen M says:

yes, and it is also so much cleaner to produce our electricity from Nuclear energy.

  • PATRICIA MS says:

    Good idea.
Bush has a windmill on his East coast home, yet he says nothing to get us away from this gouging we are taking.

  • NEOBillyfree says:

Would love to if we could get the liberal nut bars to stop blocking the building of them. I would also like to see us refine our own oil in the mean time, but again, left wing screw balls stand in the way of Americas self reliance and advancement again.
We propose wind power and the bird nuts freak out, we propose nuclear and they pour red paint on them selves and pretend to die in protest while blocking the construction equipment, They are with out doubt ,champions of Americas failure.

  • Dragon says:

I would support it if they would do three things.

Have it be clean, with no waste that would need to be cared for for the next several million years.

Have it be as cost effective per watt as other forms of actually renewable power, and certainly not take more oil to build and operate than it makes in electricity.

And if it did not take a gigantic autocratic bureaucracy to operate them, leaving open the possibility of corruption or incompetence ( think "heck of a job" Brown in charge )

Nuclear power was stopped in the US because, unfortunately, it was unable to do any of these things.

France has been very socialized and trusted their government to manage things, unfortunately the new Neocon government is a very good reason not to do projects that take a socialized government for the next Million years to avoid disaster.

For the price of a single Nuclear plant you could cover every roof in the nation with solar cells. Not a total solution but would produce many times more power than a single nuke plant.

Nuclear power is like the Conservative idea of Socialism that nobody likes, making it possible for every American to have control of their source of power, linked to help each other at need, is the kind of democratic ideal that actual Liberals prefer.

  • mikeb721 says:

yes completely I also think we need to expand domestic oil reserves.

  • The Wise One says:

    Yes – less foreign oil!

  • mnvikes says:

yes. but ideally id like to see more wind and solar and have geothermal heating/AC mandated in all new homes and start phasing out traditional furnaces and air conditioners since temperature control is one of the biggest energy users

  • the soup nazi says:

I’d like to see solar energy used more.

  • justanotherjoe says:

No. All you ppl see is the now isn’t it? Think of true energy "independence". You’re still promoting socialized energy production and distribution. Quit it. Think "true green."

  • egoist_capitalist says:

Without even getting into the hydrogen-powered / plug-powered cars problem, we are in really short supply of electrical power (see the routine outages throughout the country). Adding the extra load of the cars many people claim to want – something you plug into your house to recharge – it’s hopeless w/o nukes.
